In our eyes the most important element in a wedding is to keep things personal, making sure there is an element of your personality through the day. We love when we hear about family members being involved in the wedding planning - nothing better than a little DIY to put your own stamp on things! Often we are asked to take on the floral design for only the bridal flowers or maybe only the reception flowers, allowing a family member or friend to decorate part of the wedding or design the bridal flowers but not having to take the stress of doing all the wedding flowers entirely.

This wedding at Mansfield Traquair was a little like this, we decorated the reception only. Jennifer fell in love with this table design the minute she saw it and we think it sits perfectly in such an awe-inspiring venue.

When we opened up these wedding photographs from Blue Sky Photography wehad completely forgotten how much modern floral goodness had been at thiswedding. Now that we have had time to look back over last summersweddings, the range of styles and colours were phenomenal and there really is no stand out colour or look that we could say was adefinite trend for the year. However Julie and Ben's wedding definitelystands out from the crowd. The clean modern sleekness and strong colourpalette set it apart from so much of what we are seeing trending in themagazines at the moment.

Gosh it feels like a very long timesince we last posted. The team are feeling refreshed and ready for 2012!In the last week or so we have met so many new couples getting marriedthis year, excited to see the array of venues that we are alreadybooked for and being part of many special weddings and events thisyear.

Looking back at last year we can’t quite believe how many diverse eventswe were involved in and the amazing places we were featured! From elegant weddings to fun 21st birthday parties, to being featured on Rock MyWedding, Love My Dress, The Ebury Collection and totop it off Style Me Pretty (yep.. Style Me Pretty!! OMG!) Although,really last years icing on the cake has to be one of two things.. ourfirst VOWS award nomination and being voted one the top 50 UK florists inthe Independent 2011 was an almighty year..

So what’s our first blog post of 2012 about? It’s about this enchantingwedding that First Light Photography captured that we have popped up onour online gallery if for no other reason to look at this Hopetoun weddingday but to see the most adorable little sweet flower girls! Today we are pretty thrilled to share photos from Sheila and Nehal's wedding courtesy of the hugely talented Elemental Weddings. This wedding was full to the brim with some of the most amazing details and although every wedding is different we really don’t think we have ever met another couple quite like Sheila and Nehal. The amount of work and planning they put into their wedding was mind boggling! Every decision they made together and Sheila handmade so many of the most beautiful DIY projects we ever did see. When they first popped in to see us they brought handmade paper that was going to be used for stationery. The paper was gorgeous and rustic and through the paper lay red onion skin.. Yes, onion skin. That one element carried us throughout the floral planning, filling our ideas with designs full of texture and depth of colour. Making sure Prestonfield Marquee was warm and inviting, full of interest and ambience..

Lennoxlove

In late August we worked alongside Heritage Portfolio at Lennoxlove for the wedding of Scott and Yiding. Yiding knew exactly how she wanted the venue to look and feel on the day, full of classic elegance in a romantic style with just a hint of glamour.

Don’t you love how the colour of the bridesmaids bouquets pop against their cream dresses we adore how each dress has something a little different to their style.

Guests were invited into the Great Hall for their wedding breakfast which we filled with vases full of shades of red and pink roses.

Scott and Yiding brought us hundreds of traditional Chinese lanterns which we strung up on fairy lights and hung from the main bannister - it looked so sweet and special and added a personal touch.

This last photo makes us chuckle.. We have a collection of photos fromover the years of brides, grooms, best men, bridesmaids, mothers, fathers,guests and of course flower girls getting up to mischief with our flowersthat make us smile this photo will be going in that file! Thanks Blue Sky!

There is nothing we like more than to be challenged with something alittle different from the norm and gosh did this ever! When Heritage Portfolio and Kyles on Scotland came to us with a Tim Burton themed 21stbirthday party at Mansfield Traquair we couldn’t wait to get our teethinto the imaginative style of Tim Burton!

Concentrating on just two of his movies Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory we designed larger than life mushrooms andtoadstools in the entrance and then on the long dinner tables we made amoss runner; topped with huge lime greenhydrangea topiaries with oversized sweeties. Tower Productions did themost magnificent job of lighting the venue finishing it off with the realatmosphere of the films.

This was an event we never wanted to end..

Dovecot Studios

When Christina and Simon asked us to meet them at Dovecot Studios to discuss their wedding plans we were over the moon. Dovecot Studios is a wedding venue we have had our eye on for sometime now we couldn't wait for the big day. Christina had chosen the most beautiful soft colours as her wedding palette a pale soft peachy pink and a delicate dove grey. We wanted to bring an autumnal vibe into the day but without using any strong colours so we came up with a concept of a muted autumn!

Huge thanks to Sarah of Sarah Elizabeth Photography for her lovely photos of the day highlighting the floral details perfectly.

The Hypericum berry was the perfect match to the bridesmaid dress and the little fabric flowers of the flower girls dress.

Berry + Birch + Maple leaf = sweetest autumn buttonhole

The reception room has huge shelves full of wool spools, we picked some of the spools which fit with the colour scheme and used them in lieu of a vase on the drinks reception tables.

Such gorgeous colours, in an amazing venue with perfect photos documenting the day.. our Tuesday is complete!

This year we have been completely smitten with Hydrangea. The simplicity of urns filled with green and white hydrangea just works so well in rich colour venues like the National Galleries – there is just no need to complicate things by introducing other flowers, textures or colours.

Bonfire Night

We are a little late for a Halloween blog post so we are going to have to call this a Bonfire Night post! Last week we installed an event for a birthday party.. not just any birthday party but a Halloween themed party! It was our first ever event that required not one piece of floristry apart from the scattering of dipped black leaves, we have to be honest and say we enjoyed ourselves a little too much! Dripping wax and creating creepy spider webs - it was so far away from our summer weddings it was unreal!

Already our last autumnal styled wedding has been and gone... how can our favourite season be over already?! Soon our chiller will be full of red amaryllis, ilex, spruce, pine cones and other winter goodies ready for Christmas. We first met Zoë and Duncan back in January at the Hopetoun House Wedding Fayre, as soon as they mentioned that Duncans mum was going to grow gourds for the occasion to be used through the styling we knew it was going to be something very special..

We were literally counting down the days until Abbey and Steve's wedding at Mansfield Traquair. When Abbey and Winnie first came to visit us they had thoughts of topiary trees on tables but with a modern twist - after long chats about the idea and lots of brain storming we came up with keeping everything very spherical but using lots of glass and mirrored props and not actually using the trunk/stem of the tree so that we didn’t bring in the rustic element. With the addition of gorgeous linens, stationery from Knotty and the stunning fairy light cascade from Tower Productions the room was complete! So many great suppliers were involved in the day and we can’t wait to see pictures of the bride and bridemaids wearing their Freja dresses with our bouquets Mette even provided some excess material from their dresses for us to bind all the bouquets in to ensure the perfect match!

We have stocked martini vases for quite some time now and they still are one of our clients favourites. The main reason for this is something we completely understand.. sight lines. Most clients who opt for the martini vase don’t want to have any of their guests vision blocked by a stand or vase arrangement so our martini vases are one of the best solutions for this problem.

On Saturday we dressed The Signet Library with soft autumnal flowers in our martini vases. The lush textures alongside the soft warm colours were to die for and complemented the architecture of the Upper Library beautifully.

In the last few weeks we have seen so many of our 2011 winter brides we are all feeling a little festive already. Especially when we spotted red ilex in our local wholesaler last week! So to give a little winter inspiration to some of our brides we thought we would feature this Lennoxlove wedding from January past.

Dark red roses and regal purple anemones led the way through all the wedding with accents of viburnum berries and amaryllis to give some added texture.

Fairy lights add an instant visual element to a marquee no matter the time of year.

National Museum of Scotland

Recently Heritage Portfolio commissioned us to create a herb garden in the newly refurbished National Museum of Scotland for a client launch party. We installed large arches of pots of thyme and mint along with huge urns of lavenders and basil giving the whole area a rustic garden vibe.

Although the biggest talking point was our lettuce bar.. Did we just say lettuce bar?? YES WE DID! Have we not got the most fun job?! It took two of the team a whole day to layer thousands of lettuce leaves. The texture the leaves provided was stunning and the thought did run through our mind of how we could incorporate more lettuce into our work! We had fantastic feedback from our clients and most of all we can't wait for future events in the new Museum space.

As sole recommended florist at Hopetoun House we love how each and every bride has a different style at Hopetoun. Something about seeing huge cylinders filled with puffballs of abundant white hydrangea against the intricate tapestry's made us smile. All the other details were kept very minimalist, using single stem vases and clear candle stick holders not to detract from the main attraction!

National Galleries of Scotland

Alastair of AMJ Photography kindly featured some of his images of one of our tablescapes at National Galleries of Scotland on his blog this past week. The event for the Edinburgh Convention Bureau was a small dinner of twenty guests set on one long table (regular bloggers will know about our little obsession with long tables!). The colours and structure worked extremely well against the brashness of the red walls. Before leaving the set-up a passer by commented that it was a piece of art itself so of course it fitted perfectly in the room.. how could we not be please with a statement like that!

We adored this truly vintage wedding that 88 Events put together at Dundas Castle. The whole wedding looked so effortlessly gorgeous, but of course you know that every detail was planned out to perfection when Sheila at 88 Events and the wedding team at Dundas Castle are involved!

We met our bride Jackie only once before the wedding as she lived in South Africa but we clicked from the start and were confident we knew the look that she had envisioned for their wedding day.

Her bouquet was full of lovely textures.. loose and free-spirited was the brief and we loved that, giving us opportunity to pop lots of random little goodies in there!

Our most favourite spot of the marquee has to be this little corner where we placed some chests and filled them with herbs and hydrangea. Then topped them with urns full of roses, snowberries and hydrangea and placed pails of stock and wax flower to finish off. Perfect way to fill dead space in a marquee.

Is it a little to early for talk of autumn? Possibly a little.. When we designed this tablescape it was definitely far too early for talk of maple leaves, berries and malus apples but it was light relief from our summer filled with frilly hydrangea, pale pink peonies and thousands of garden roses. Heritage Portfolio asked us to decorate a long table in the Gallery of Modern Art with a natural rustic feel.. Bark covered containers and birch vessels instantly gave that feel leaving us just to fill them with vivid yellows and burnt oranges.

Dundas Castle

When the team at Dundas Castle asked us to decorate the Auld Keep for their 1000th wedding celebration we took the opportunity to install some alternative designs that we aren’t typically asked for at Dundas. Rather than running the same look and style through the Keep we made feature areas out of some of our favourite nooks and crannies! It’s not often we would mix modern ceramics against old stone walls or chest of drawers with milk pails but when given the opportunity of free reign we were able to let our creative inspiration take control!

Blue Sky Photography were on site at Dundas Castle that day taking all 100 couples photos at the celebration. Thank you so very much Niels for taking the time out and taking shots of our flowers - especially in the height of wedding season and on a Sunday!

The Signet Library - Website Launch

White roses were most definately the theme to Lydia and Neil´s romantic Dundas Castle wedding in June. We just wanted to show you the mix of low and tall table designs in the Pavilion - mixing two designs on the guest tables is a great way to break the room up and make it less formal. We twinned our silver candelabra with a collection of silver containers with masse ivory roses.

Such a classic elegant marquee wedding at Harburn House from a few weeks back - feels like a lifetime ago already! Jo and Richard were so incredibly lucky with the weather and the most beautiful day - our hearts have gone out to last weekends brides with the torrential thunder and lightening storms!

Jo´s bouquet was one of our favourites that weekend - we adored the orchids in the hydrangea, rose and lily of the valley mix.

Archerfield - Marquee

Ghost chairs, mirror topped tables and thousands of orchids.. what more could an event florist ask for?! Not much we say!! This wedding at Archerfield was full of so many incredible details brought together by the team at Heritage Portfolio - it made it hard to concentrate on our installations!

We kept the church simple with large silver urns full of callas set in groupings - with lots of candles dotted on every ledge, shelf and nook and cranny we could find!

Large tall clear vases were placed on every table with a floating candle surround. Using hundreds of orchids we created soft balls on the top of the vase which the talented crew at Tower Productions lit beautifully.

Last week Mette of Freja Designer Dressmaking kindly sent through a few images that John Cheung captured at a photo-shoot they worked on together. Can we just say (not that we should) never mind the flowers! How gorgeous are these dresses?! Just love the detail, shape and texture - absolutely stunning and so striking! Discovering new suppliers is always great - we are now addicted to the Rene Walrus website, they provided the Tiaras for the shoot. On the first Saturday in June at the Garden Suite, Norton House Hotel we worked alongside 88 Events to help transform the function suite into a soft flowery haven of seasonal flowers all designed in a very natural organic way with a vintage twist here and there. Our sweet bride Fiona had impeccable taste and knew from the start the look she wanted to achieve - this style complimented her perfectly! Westminster anyone?! Would you believe us if we said that the bride came to see us before the Royal wedding? And that when she came in she knew EXACTLY what she wanted?! No? Didn't think you would but she totally did!! This wedding is one those weddings you never want to end - you install it and you want to stay for the entire wedding just to take the room in. We have mentioned it before and we will probably mention it again but Mansfield Traquair is one of our favourite venues to work in. When trees were brought up in conversation in our first consult we got really quite giddy with the thought of trees and Mansfield in the same sentence.

Now we are in no way saying ours are anything like the incredible Royal wedding trees with the under planting of Lily of the Valley (lush.. can you imagine how utterly intoxicating that smell must have been as you walked in the church?) But for us this wedding was really pretty special. Our bride Jennifer was a florist herself so it was such an honour for her to choose us to design and install her wedding flowers.. and we loved every single minute of it!

We pride ourselves on guiding our brides through the design process - starting off with things that inspires them - colours, textures, scents, patterns - ANYTHING! Then we let the design and style naturally progress from there. Often we make a mood board or put a collection of images together after the first consultation to help us realise if we are going on the right path. Sometimes the mood board is nothing like the final outcome but then other times our first mood board from our first consult becomes the inspiration for all the flowers!

We can´t believe how close Carin and James´ first inspiration board was so close to there final look of the day. Our good friends at Blue Sky Photography captured the day and kindly sent us some of the flowery images to use. Niels and Alie are so detail aware and we are so very lucky that they often take picture of our work! We adore the collection of images they took of Kirens' bridal bouquet, the colours are so vivid and the details are sublime - the Blue Sky team almost dissected our bouquet with photos - showing it up close and personal! Brilliant!

Craighouse Campus

Melissa and Blair had the most amazing style on their wedding day at Craighouse Campus - all starting with there colour palette of pea green, white and black. Every single detail they planned came together flawlessly. We enjoyed every single minute of working with Melissa, helping her bring together the floral designs that featured throughout the day. Melissa also brought on board the loveliest Susan from Knotty Stationery to design her Candy table and CandySnaps Photography - if you have a few minutes you must take a look at the CandySnaps blog feature on Melissa and Blair´s day - she has captured the day wonderfully.

Our new found favourite (second to the carnation!) succulents - sweet little details on the signing table.

Each table was built up with a collection of containers each with a little gold and black detailing to continue the colour theme.

Prestonfield House

Using large white and ivory garden roses we created these classic oversized silver candelabra arrangements for 88 Events at the indulgent Prestonfield House. Our amateur photographs really don't do these gorgeous displays justice - every guest that passed us while working on these stunning arrangements commented on the beauty of them (and the scent that filled the room!)

The George Hotel

A few weeks back we had one of the most colourful weekends ever! Three weddings each with an eclectic mix of bright colourings - reds, oranges, pinks, yellows colours that really shout that something very special is happening. This wedding at The George Hotel was a complete joy to be involved in for so many reasons, we just had to share the images we took on the day. Our lovely bride wanted to keep the ceremony flowers quite minimalist and classic bringing the colours into the bridesmaids bouquets and the receptions flowers. We decorated The Kings Hall lightly with a simple alter installation and chair side bunches.

Using a varied variety of flowers with the eclectic mix of colourings we started to introduce the colours in with the bridesmaids bouquets.

Of course with such vivid colours for the bridesmaids we had to do something very funky for the gents buttonholes..

There are just so many details we could show you but rather than showing the guest table designs or the huge 10ft arches we thought the fireplace and sideboard were also worth a sneak peak.

This has to be one of the most fun fireplace installations we have created!

Dundas Castle - Featured Supplier

Dundas Castle kindly featured us as one of their guest bloggers recently. We often admit to being extremely fortunate that we work in some of Scotland´s most beautiful venues and Dundas Castle is certainly one of them. As a few teaser images were featured on the blog to whet your appetite; we thought we would show two of the weddings in more detail for all those couples looking for flower inspiration at the Castle. The first wedding is a Keep ceremony set-up - we loved this wedding and the way it took a very classic style but gave it a contemporary twist by introducing spherical shapes within the designs.

This second wedding is a Pavilion wedding breakfast set-up. It was a soft, gorgeous spring set up with vintage candelabras - we loved the sweet delicate bride and bridesmaids bouquets.

St Peters RC Church & Llansantffraed Court

Last year we made a little trip down to Llansantffraed Court in Abergavenny to style the flowers for Sarah and David´s wedding day. Carole, our good friend and mother of the groom kindly sent in some of Paul Donovan´s photographs of the flowers. Sarah loved full, open, frilly blooms with only hints of greenery here and there with a slight vintage twist. Using mauves, pale pinks, ivories within the collection of flowers; we created a mix of low and tall arrangements in the marquee to soften it slightly and bring colour in to the room. It was such an enjoyable wedding to be a part of - we enjoyed every minute of it!

Edinburgh International Festival

We're excited and proud to be the Official Flower Partner of the 2011 Edinburgh International Festival. Keep an eye out for us (and our floral installations) throughout the festival (12th August - 4 September). In the middle of March we worked alongside the EIF team at their brochure launch at The Hub here in Edinburgh. We installed huge urns of lime green and bronze chrysanthemum blooms to coincide with their brochure cover and general theme throughout their advertising.

Our favourite part of this involvement was seeing the floral installation appear throughout the press - these images make us smile each time we look at them!

Mansfield Traquair

At the beginning of March we were brought on board to an out of this world event by Heritage Portfolio to help create a "winter tablescape" for an unbelievable birthday party. It's not often (infact never) are we asked to be involved in installations that don't require any flower content. Using hundreds of icicles, snow balls, fake snow and the odd occasional (super cute) polar bear - we built up the table tops hanging lots of details from our candle topped perspex stands. The addition of Tower Productions atmospheric lighting gave the frosty coldness needed to pull off the look. The finishing touches of Knotty Stationery's snowflake themed table names was the final element to this enchanting birthday party.

We just couldn't handle having NO flowers at one of our events so in the entrance of Mansfield Traquair before the reveal we filled the desks with pure white fresh spring goodies - paperwhites, hyacinths, snow drops, tulips and cyclamen to throw the guests off the scent of what they were about to see!

Sample Bridal Bouquets

Soon it will be wedding season and the craziness of Mothers Day that has just left us will feel like an eternity ago! We have had so many of our summer brides making a visit to see us lately catching up and confirming all their summer wedding plans - all the excitement rubs off on us and it makes us all feel quite giddy! The clients we will be working for, the places we will be visiting, the amazing installations and the gorgeous flowers we will be working with - we wish it was May now!

A long time ago we realised that photos of our work can only do so much for our brides to be in consults - often our brides pick three or four designs they like from our showroom galleries and ask us to make it a cross between them all. When this happens we always offer a sample of their wedding bouquet, to set their mind at ease - to let them see it come together.. the size, shape, colours and texture to assure not only them, but ourselves that this is the exact bouquet they have their heart set on. Vintage is still the biggest style trend that we hear about and a few weekends ago we had three brides come to see us all with a vintage style but all with different colourings. Here is a sneak peak of three different bouquet samples - showing how vintage doesn’t have to be all neutral colourings.

Rock My Wedding

Our love for wedding blogs runs deep! Truly!! They are such an amazing source of... dare we say the over used word of "inspiration"! Not only that but often a great support system to brides and grooms who are going all out on details. Seeing "real life" weddings - where couples have chosen a stand out designs, colours and styles and really worked them gives couples confidence in their suppliers, their ideas and most of all their DIY projects! It’s also possibly the best way to find new unique suppliers - be it a florist, caterer, stationer anything or anyone seeing their talents shine through on someone else’s wedding day must be the best recommendation.

Last year we blogged about a super cool informal wedding at Kirknewton Stables and we had such a huge response to it and all the little details Claire and Dan worked hard on so when we noticed it had been featured by Rock My Wedding we were so overjoyed!

Talking about finding suppliers through blogs - We have followed Lillian and Leonard Wedding Photography, Claire and Dan´s photographer for quite some time now, through twitter and their blog. The first wedding we noticed of theirs was this one at Crear - it just felt so different to what we had seen before; relaxed, informal, fun, detailed - just perfect imagery that we loved. As you can imagine to find out they were photographing one of our weddings after 2 years of following their work we were pretty ecstatic about the whole day - not only were Cara and Nye going to be there but Claire and Dan´s wedding was to die for!

Mansfield Traquair

Way, way back last May (yep we are still totally behind in blogging!) we joined Susie and Adams' awesome group of suppliers and helped them bring together there elegant wedding day. When Jack Photography sent through a disk of images and we realised who´s wedding photographs we were looking at we jumped up and down like excited school girls looking at the latest Justin Bieber music video! Susie and Adam were so much fun to work with and they completely understood design and colour! The overall look was beyond words - stunning! If you notice anything in the venue images - notice the lighting. The team at Tower are complete perfectionists - they bring venues alive with their lighting, especially such big venues like Mansfield Traquair.

Susie decided to keep all the flowers white except from the bridesmaids bouquets which had a pop of magenta which match their shoes - we used black satin for any little ribbon details which carried on to the guest table napkin which had a little black satin belly band.

The flower girls held pomanders of white peonies - they are such a fun alternative to mini bridesmaids bouquets.

We kept things plain and simple in the church with two glass urns filled with white hydrangea and white willow (this willow was 7 ft tall!)

Susie loved the elegance of all white and to keep the pure white we used no greenery through the table flowers and to help add height, we added white willow through. This was a May wedding and there was a danger of it looking a little wintry with the white willow but with the gorgeous hot pink lighting it changed the look to a fresh, clean summery vibe.

We added detail to the vase by sinking rose heads in to the base of the vase.

Seriously... how drop dead gorgeous is Susie and her sister Gillian?! We were lucky enough to also help with Gillian’s wedding later in the year (fingers crossed we will get to blog that before her first anniversary!)

The Ebury Collection Blog

If you like vivid colours and striking contemporary floral design then you will adore Caroline and Stuart´s wedding that was featured on The Ebury Collection´s daily blog at the beginning of the week. The three part feature not only gave you a real feel of the whole day from the morning prep to the evening dancing but the stunning bride Caroline gives full insight into the day and all her planning hints and tips! Blue Sky Photography captured the style and feel of the couple perfectly (of course, we expect nothing less!) and Hannah at Ebury has showcased this wedding perfectly! The most exciting part of this three part blog feature is the addition of one of Steve at Cherry Tree Films wedding trailers! Everytime a Cherry Tree Film trailer is posted of a wedding we have been involved in, the team down tools and huddle around the office computer with a coffee in hand and sit mesmerised at what they are watching - very sure Steve will cringe when we say this but his work is nothing short of magical! National Museum of Scotland

Lately we have been drawn to colour. Big bright bursts of colours! We think this is generally due to the fact we are so DESPERATE for Spring to appear! Winter has felt so so long this year, possibly because of all that crazy snow or possibly because we have got some of the most creative, fantastic weddings and events coming up we just cant wait to get our teeth into it all!

So when this little intimate wedding at the National Museum of Scotland came up we were in our element! The colour collection just popped! We could have stayed in that room all day and pretended it was June!!

Dundas Castle

Saturday's are always busy days for the Planet Team. Either with installing our couples dream wedding flowers or meeting with brides and grooms who are at different stages of their wedding planning. Saturday past we met several couples, all at different planning stages. No matter when their wedding is, be it next month or next year, or for that matter 2014 - all our brides have the same problem, visualising the venue set-up for their wedding. We cannot imagine how hard it must be for you, as a couple never organising a wedding before, not only having to plan and book everything from make-up artists to photographers to stationary to then have to visualise how your venue is going to look when it´s fully dressed. This is one of the biggest reasons we have our blog. So that our clients can browse through our posts to see what previous clients have achieved in their venues - to help inspire our brides and to help them visualise their wedding colours, style and look in their venue.

One of our future Dundas Castle brides mentioned on Saturday she had only ever seen white or purple flowers in Dundas Castles' elegant Pavilion. So lovely lady, this blog post is especially for you!

Hopetoun House

We are ending today with a delightful event at Hopetoun House. Searching for some inspiration our client found this wedding we designed a few years ago. Our blog serves us so well - as inspiration to our new clients but also to remind us what we have done in the past, making sure we are always moving forward, taking previous designs and changing them each time to make sure they are in line with the clients style. We took this design and gave it a spring twist - using hyacinths, paper whites, tulips and snow drops in each table design. We were totally smitten with the final design in the Tiger Room. Using a collection of plinths decked with mirrors we arranged collections of vases, candles, bud vases - some with a little moss and leaf detail.

Just such a lovely clean fresh look - working perfectly with the table design.

Little Miss Wedding

Today we have been featured on Little Miss Wedding blog - a sweet little feature of buttonholes inspiration. Buttonholes have came a long long way - no longer does the groom have to wear a white carnation, the bestman a pink carnation and the ushers and guests wear red carnations! We try to make sure our grooms and their immediate bridal party wear a buttonhole of the same style as the rest of the wedding flowers. The Independent

We had a crazy busy week last week. Three lovely weddings and several large events plus the love fest of Valentines Day on Monday. By Saturday, with our fifth 5am start in a row - we will be honest, we were all feeling a little frayed around the edges! It didn't last long.. especially when we found out we were featured in The Independents guide to the UK's "50 Best Florists".

Seriously amazing - we could not believe it! As we specialise in event and wedding floristry and don't have a "front shop" it really isn't often we are even considered for such a prestigious list! The response we had from Twitter and Facebook once the list was announced was so special - we are still astonished at all the support we have!

The Independent used a screen grab of a wedding we installed all the way back in 2007 - there are some weddings that push the boundaries for us as florists, and the whole team agree that this wedding was one of those. Since the Independent used it, we thought we would show you a few sneak peaks of this wedding as it is completely worthy of a Planet Flowers blog post!

National Museum of Scotland

White ceramics, green tiles, glass test tubes, grey table plinths and that's before we get to the flowers on this little event themed with spring flowers. The Board and Bute room space at the National Museum of Scotland is a favourite of ours, such a blank canvas which can take any design and look amazing.

Our favourite part of this event? The succulent touches - beautiful. The texture of the succulents against the softness of the narcissus and hyacinths was just lush!

Upstairs in the Board room we wanted to create a central piece for the drinks reception that guests could walk round and find lots of interesting details. We used tall test tube vases, filling them with single varieties of spring flowers with lots of unique textures. We then laid two branches which we painted and hung small vials of paper white through out to bring details to the base of the table.

Dundas Castle - 1000th Wedding

Back in December we designed the wedding flowers for Kate and Simon at Dundas Castle. Such a special day not only for the gorgeous couple but it was also Dundas Castles 1000th wedding!

So many of our supplier friends were involved in the big day with Reel Time Events, 21cc Fireworks and Elemental Photography they had a great team for a great day - even with all the crazy snow! It may have been severely cold outside but with all the rich colours, velvety reds and deep purples alongside all the glowing fairy lights the pavilion looked warm and magical.

Today we needed to cheer ourselves up a little – especially after all this miserable weather! So what better way than to show you the BRILLIANT photography by Blue Sky of Kiren and Sandeep’s magnificently colourful wedding at Hopetoun House last summer. Seriously one look at these elephants and our moods are lifted instantly.

We framed the top table with two large elephants and then created a back drop for the bride and groom with flower garlands.

And one last baby elephant for good luck!

Cherry Tree Films

We were asked to join lots of lovely suppliers at Hopetoun House for their Wedding Open Day last Sunday. It´s such a great opportunity for us to meet lots of new brides and grooms and also for us to catch up with some of our wedding friend suppliers.

As you may have seen on Blue Sky Photography´s blog or Elemental Weddings blog, one of the highlights of the day was the re-brand of Design Video Scotland to Cherry Tree Films. Steve from Cherry Tree Films contacted us a few days before to ask if we could recreate a cherry tree for them on the day - of course we obliged!

To be honest, it was sort of a dream come true - as creatives, we are constantly being inspired and coming up with new designs that we often don´t have the opportunity to do - we had wanted to give a "faux" cherry tree a go for a long time so we were so thrilled that Cherry Tree Films got in touch!

Steve - thank you so much for letting us be part of the launch of your exciting venture, wishing you lots of luck (not that you will need it!)

As we draw closer to The Signet Library Wedding Open Day, we thought it would be the best time to remind you of how stunning this venue is! Leo Friel kindly sent us some images he captured of Anna and Fraser´s wedding which took place at Canongate Kirk followed by their reception at The Signet Library. Anna and Fraser wanted everything to be very elegant and classic - using shades of cream and peach tones to give warmth to the room. We used lots of winter foliage to add texture and scent to the displays and finished the table with a sprig of mistletoe on each napkin.

Romantic. White. Unique. Soft. FREEZING. But completely worth it. Winter wonderland totally being the inspiration for this incredible wedding at Hopetoun House. Mainly featuring white birch and fairy lights with the addition of soft ruffly Ranunculus, large headed full white roses and soft frilly hydrangea - adding touches of white pine cones and ceramics to give textures.

We kept the ceremony area clean, clear and simple. Keeping to lots of varying heights and varieties of candles.

This has to be one of our most favourite stair case installations! It looked so magical..

Our lovely bride and groom requested a low top table design to make sure sight lines were clear for speeches. So we kept everything to single varieties grouping them on mirrors to reflect the guest table designs.

The Signet Library

Truth be told we almost wish winter lasted that little bit longer. Sometimes the seasonal summer flowers seem to go on forever but when autumn and winter flowers are here they are over before we know it! So every winter we try and savour them, making each event and wedding as seasonal as possible!

This is a little snippet of a long tablescape we designed for Heritage Portfolio at The Signet Library a few weeks ago. Those of you who follow us on Twitter will have noticed us chatting about a 66ft long spruce garland we made - well here it is, giving a great base and texture to the table design.

Console Table

Sometimes, when we are very busy installing pretty things for our brilliant clients we get caught up in the moment and forget where we have been and what we have designed only days later! It´s only when we take a breather and sit down with a cuppa, spending time to look at images of our work that our photographer friends generously send us (that they capture so perfectly!) we realise what we have achieved with our creations.

Last week the loveliest lady that is Ditte from First Light Photography sent some images from a wedding we were involved in back in September. We had completely forgotten all about the console table installation we had designed! The bridal family had started to refurbish it before the wedding but had ran out of time, so Mairi lovingly called it their "shabby chic" console table that needed some Planet loving! We covered it with vases full of orchids and floating candles, personally we think it went from "shabby chic" to "chic unique"!

National Gallery of Scotland

We made it! Last week was nothing but crazy, the snow really caused us some terrible panics but we got there in the end! The weekend started at The National Galleries with two design on alternate tables both featuring the most gorgeous velvety red amaryllis and layered leaves. Against the red walls and gold table clothes the colours were a fantastic match.

Christmas is here! We were asked to help decorate Hopetoun House for their Christmas Present Event. Adding a little floral festiveness to some corners of the House which are not being used for the Christmas Shopping Fair. We really got in to the spirit of things yesterday designing this festive tablescape in the State Dining Room.

Mansfield Traquair

Now as we are moving from autumn to winter, we are seeing many more of our weddings turning to a winter theme. Mansfield Traquair lends itself to pretty much any style you throw at it - it is definitely in Planet’s top 10 wedding venues! One of the best features about Mansfield Traquair to us is that everything takes place in the same room therefore we are able to "re-use" flowers. We can create a dramatic aisle for your ceremony that we can then break down into your table flowers or your alter table can then become a stunning cake table! We adored the wintery feel of this wedding - it felt magical and was such a joy to set. We worked fairy lights through the orchid garlands that we attached to the white willow and the purple water added a pop of colour that works perfectly with the lighting of the arches.

We really wanted to show you this wedding more for the lighting rather than the actual flowers! As the venue is changed from a ceremony area to a reception area you can see how the lighting becomes more dramatic for the reception which in turn changes the look and feel of the flowers and the over all atmosphere of the venue. To us lighting is so SO important, it can bring venues to life and highlights flowers showing the best in them.

Assembly Rooms

This year at the Assembly Rooms we provided white amaryllis with silver birch detail in low mirrored cubes for the Radio Forth One Awards. As this event is an awards ceremony it´s always important to keep the designs low and unobtrusive yet striking. We look forward to this set up every year, there is always such a buzz around the building - we even spotted Joe McElderry rehearsing!
